Golf Stats

Golf Stats is a small app for a group of friends to log their golf rounds. This is a plain-language summary of what it stores and why.

Rounds and scores. Every round you log (course, date, hole-by-hole scores and, if you use stats/caddy mode, putts/chips/penalties, fairway and green data, club used) is stored so it can be shown back to you and whoever you share the PIN with.

The PIN. Each round gets an 8-character PIN. Anyone with that PIN can view the round at /r/<pin> without an account. Don't share a PIN with anyone you don't want seeing that round.

Accounts. Creating an account only needs an email — you get a one-time login link, no password to manage. Your display name and, optionally, a profile photo are visible to your accepted friends. Any photo you upload (profile or friend feed) is recompressed and any hidden location data in it (EXIF) is stripped before it's stored.

Friends and the feed. Adding a friend needs mutual acceptance. Rounds, feed posts and photos are visible only to your accepted friends, never to strangers. Your accepted friends can also open your profile: your stats, handicap evolution and recent rounds (unless you turn off sharing your rounds in the feed). If you invite someone by email who doesn't have an account yet, we send them a single invitation email and keep their address only until they sign up. When you share a round link, messaging apps can show a preview image with the course and each player's score.

AI-generated text (optional). If the site owner has configured an Anthropic API key, this data may be sent to Anthropic to generate: a short summary, a one-word style tag and a one-sentence note for each player, all based on that specific round's stats (player names are replaced by "Player 1", "Player 2"... before sending and put back afterwards); a headline for the friends feed, based only on the round's best score (no names); a personal improvement tip on your account page, based on your career stats (without your name); hole-by-hole "caddie" tips shown during a live round, based on each hole's layout and your own history at each hole of that course (without your name); and, for golf leagues, a short recap of the standings, which includes entrants' names. Your email address, exact location and round PIN are never sent.

Deleting a round. Requesting deletion (from the round's PIN page) hides it right away; it's permanently erased 48 hours later unless the owner restores it.
